Joon is from New Jersey. When he was in eighth grade, he read an impactful journal article on the murder of Ali Fazeli Monfared, whose sexual identity resonated with his own. This began his passion for human rights and led to his interest in journalism through its significant impact on people’s lives. In the future, he aspires to be an international human rights lawyer who changes the world positively. He is a Youth Ambassador for the New Jersey Division on Civil Rights and is currently serving as secretary of the Amnesty International branch at his school.
